"The season of Lent is seen as a special time for meditation, prayer and penitential practices for increased understanding of Christ's sacrifice and resurrection," Epps said, "and for the renewal of baptismal vows and recommitment to Christian life. Traditional Lenten practices include fasting, special commitments, good deeds and alms giving, prayer and reflection, studying scripture and increased participation in church worship services."
