Tyrone's Hopewell UMC to offer after-school tutoring program
Hopewell United Methodist Church in Tyrone began a pilot after-school program on Nov. 3.
The trial program, called "Homework Haven," is being offered on a limited basis to middle and high school students who attend services at Hopewell. If the program is successful, enrollment will be opened to the community at large.
"Homework Haven" will focus on individual tutoring and will be held on Wednesdays from 3:30 - 6 p.m.
Charlie Minors will be available to tutor students in mathematics, and Mary Beth Thompson will tutor students having trouble with English. Students who need a safe and quiet place to do homework also will be accommodated through the program.
Youth director Thompson, an alumna of Hopewell's youth program, said, "We see a need in the community that is not being met. Hopewell wants to offer our facilities and talent to make a contribution to the students and parents of Tyrone. Being located across the street from Sandy Creek High and close to Flat Rock Middle School, we are in a strategic location to offer this kind of assistance."
For information or to register for the program, call 770-306-7537, or e-mail [email protected].
