Members and friends of the Fayette County Branch of the NAACP held its annual meeting at the Holly Grove A.M.E. church with over 50 persons in attendance.

The Rev. Howard W. Creecy Sr., senior pastor of the Olivet Baptist Church, installed the new officers. He said that he was proud that Olivet was the birthplace of the Fayette branch in 1996.

Installed as president was the Rev. Edward Johnson; first vice president, Handel Fitz-Henley; second vice president, Malcolm Hughes; treasurer, Al LaMothe; and secretary, Elverta Williams.

Johnson said that his motto for 2005 would be "pro active" and not "re-active." He told members to roll up their sleeves and get ready to work.

"We must make this county and this nation a better one," he said. "Help us eliminate discrimination and other 'isms' that want to separate us each from the other."

The local organization has 148 members and dues are $35 a year.

Monthly meetings are held at Flat Rock A.M.E. church, in back of the United States Postal Service building on Ga. Highway 54.

The next meeting is Saturday, Jan. 8, at 4 p.m.
