The Southern Home Awards salute excellence in design, identifying the South's
best homes based on well-executed floor plans, innovative design solutions
and attentiveness to architectural detailing. Historical Concepts also won
Southern Home Awards in 2001 and 2002.
In addition to the Southern Home Award, the firm has also received the following
recognition in 2004:
- 2004 Palladio Award: New Residential Construction Under 5,000 s.f.
The firm was selected for its design of a Greek-Revival inspired residence
on Spring Island, South Carolina. Co-produced by Period Homes and Traditional
Building magazines, The Palladio Awards Program honors outstanding achievement
in traditional design.
The program recognizes design teams whose work enhances the beauty and humane
qualities of the built environment through creative interpretation or adaptation
of design principles developed through 2,500 years of the Western architectural
tradition.
- 2004 Grand Aurora Award: New Construction
A beach house designed by the firm at WaterColor (Santa Rosa Beach, Florida)
was selected for a Grand Aurora Award.
The Aurora Award program is the premier building and design competition
for builders, developers, planners, architects, interior merchandisers and
other building-related professionals in the Southeastern United States and
is held annually by the Florida Home Builders Association and the Southeast
Building Conference.
Previously, the same project won 6 APEX Awards, presented by the Building
Industry Association of Okaloosa & Walton Counties, which qualified it
for competition in the Aurora Awards.
- Publications
The firm's work has been featured in various magazines during the past
year, including Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles, Southern Living, Cottage
Living, Coastal Living and HOME. In addition, the following recently published
books have included homes designed by Historical Concepts: Cottages on the
Coast by Linda Leigh Paul, Creating a New Old House by Russell Versaci and
A House on the Water by Robert Knight.
Historical Concepts' design philosophy embraces classical scale and
proportion, vernacular ideology and historical precedent, and its services
include custom residential architecture, light commercial architecture and
land planning.
With a generalist approach to "place-making", the firm uses historical
towns and cities as inspiration and strives to create new projects that pay
homage to existing historical precedent. This award-winning approach results
in timeless designs that look and feel as though they have been part of any
given setting for generations.
With a host of additional projects scheduled to be featured in a variety
of upcoming publications, as well as on television, Historical Concepts continues
to showcase the time honored beauty of traditional design.
