A new chapter in Senoia's history was started Wednesday, but it also contained a bittersweet note from the past.
City leaders gathered Wednesday morning just off Howard Road to dedicate the city's new public works building. City officials have planned for years to build a new structure, and were happy to show off their new facility.
But the event was filled with mixed emotions as the building was dedicated to firmer public works director Bobby Hogan, who died of an aneurysm last January at 43.
Hogan could always be seen around town working on different projects, whether it was stringing the city's Christmas lights, or helping coordinate the placement of the city's new sewer lines.
He also had completed classes to be the town's arborist and worked with the city's tree committee to make sure Senoia preserved some of its older trees.
In addition to his work at City Hall, Hogan was a large figure in the city's Little League program and worked with hundreds of kids in that capacity.
During Wednesday's ceremony, Hogan's wife, Debby, who serves as the city's clerk, thanked the city for the honor.
