Though the Major League Baseball playoffs won't start for close to three weeks, the Atlanta Southisde Men's Baseball League is scheduled to have their championship this weekend at Starr's Mill High School.
The league is part of the Men's Senior Baseball League, a national organization that sponsors adult baseball leagues around the country. The two teams vying for the championship are the Orioles and the Twins. The Orioles are the regular season champs and were the reglar season and playoff champs in 2001 and 2002. They went 11 during the regular season, while the Twins went 8-6. In the playoffs, both teams went 4-1. In their two matches during the regular season, the Orioles won both games, 10-5 in the first meeting and 10-0 in the second meeting. The Orioles are managed by Peachtree City resident Mike Morrison and the Twins are managed by Dave Ermer. Ermer's father, Cal, managed the real Minnesota Twins in 1967 and 1968, racing up a record of 145-129. There will be a nine-inning game starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday and then either one or two seven inning games on Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
