The hotel-motel tax revenues have specifically been used for capital improvement
projects at the airport, and a number of projects were put on hold while
the hotel-motel tax money was in a holding pattern, sometimes with no idea
when the payments might again land in the authority's accounts.
The payments have resumed again now that the authority signed an agreement
with the city's tourism association, which is acting as the "pass-through" agency,
receiving the money from the city and then passing it along to the airport
authority.
During the retreat, which runs from 3-7 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to noon tomorrow,
authority members will also share their ideas for what direction the airport
should be headed.
Saturday's session will focus on identifying key issues that will need
to be addressed and preparing time lines and a list of tasks to be completed.
