Ground-breaking

set for new library

Fulton County

Commission Vice Chair Nancy A. Boxill, District 6, will preside over a

ground-breaking ceremony for the

East Atlanta Library on Saturday, July 10, 2004, at 10 a.m.

The new 8,000-square-foot, one-story building will be located at 400 Flat

Shoals Avenue. The facility will house a 40,000-item collection, including

books, CD's, DVD's, books-on-tape, videos, magazines and newspapers. Other

features include 18 computer stations, an exterior plaza for outdoor programs,

and a meeting room with 75-seat capacity. The library will also be programmed

for wireless technology.

Public art will be integrated into the building's design with community

participation.

The library will be a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)

building. The LEED Green Building Rating System designates "green buildings" that

conform to a national standard for performance and sustainability.

The construction company is Newco Construction of America, and Cheeks/Hornbein

is the architect.
