Fludd gains endorsements

State Rep. Virgil Fludd (D-Tyrone), candidate for re-election to Georgia's

General Assembly, has gained several key endorsements of late in his Democratic

primary bid.

Fludd has gained the support of the United Auto Workers, the AFL-CIO, the

Service Employees International Union 1985, the Atlanta Labor Council, the

Georgia Association of Educators, Georgia Equality, the Sierra Club, and

the Georgia Conservation Voters.

Fludd's record on the environment earned him the endorsement from both the

Sierra Club and the Georgia Conservation Voters. During his first term in

the Georgia General Assembly, Fludd received the Georgia Conservation Voters'

Environmental Leadership Award in 2004. He co-sponsored legislation to control

local timber harvesting. He co-sponsored legislation to prohibit the granting

of permits for a municipal solid waste landfill if such a landfill is to

be located within three miles of any residence. He also was the guest speaker

for the South Fulton "Economics of Green Infastructure" seminar.

Fludd is the incumbent candidate in the July 20 Democratic primary for Georgia

House District 66. Fludd has represented the citizens of the newly drawn House

District 66 (formerly House District 48) for the past two years in the Georgia

General Assembly. Fludd serves as secretary of the Georgia General Assembly's

banks and banking committee. He also serves on the administrative services,

education, and natural resources/environment committees. Fludd and his wife

Carolyn live in Tyrone with their two children, Christine and Brendan.
