FPD hosts personal safety class
The Fayetteville Police Department is again hosting a personal safety and
awareness class for local residents of all ages.
The class is Thursday, June 3, at 6:30 p.m. at the Fayetteville Depot, 250
Lanier Ave. East.
Topics to be covered include various protection, prevention and escape techniques,
awareness of your environment, techniques for survival and making safety checklists
for home, children, auto and travel needs.
Instructor Debbie Chambers, a detective
for the police department, said the class is a "great opportunity" for
young women heading off to college to learn basic self-defense and escape
moves.
"It will also teach them to be more aware and alert in their new college
environment," Chambers said.
Instructor Beverly Trainor encourages moms to bring their daughters to the
class.
"It's a fun class, with topics and scenarios everyone can relate
to," Trainor said.
Statistics show that a residential burglary occurs every 14 seconds in America
and a violent crime is reported every 21 seconds.
Space is limited and registration is required. To register, contact Chambers
or Trainor at 770-461-4441.
