"Without question, having one of the area's leading health plans as our title sponsor will take this event to a new level in helping us stress the importance of daily physical activity," said Galloway.
Employees sign on as part of a company team. Teams participate in a July through September "Get-in-Shape" training promotion and other planned fitness clinics and activities. They also receive a free eight-week Crunch Fitness health club membership in addition to a physical assessment and recommended personal fitness program. The corporate fitness program culminates in downtown Atlanta at Turner Field on Tuesday, September 14, at 7 p.m., with a 5K (3.1 mile) run/walk and company picnics popularly known as the "world's largest office party."
"The Corporate Run/Walk & Fitness Program represents our organization's mission to improve the health of our members and the communities we serve," said Bruce Perry, MD, Kaiser Permanente Medical Director. "This opportunity gives us a chance to work in tandem with Atlanta's corporate community to increase physical activity and fitness levels. We want to increase awareness of behaviors that contribute to health risks such as heart disease, obesity and diabetes, and to encourage people to live healthier lives."
Large, small and mid-sized companies or self-employed individuals may enter an unlimited number of runners, joggers or walkers for the Kaiser Permanente Corporate Run/Walk & Fitness Program. Part-time employees, family members, friends and children under 18 may also sign up as part of a company team. Registration is $20 per person before August 25, at 5 p.m.
