It's a battle of wills,
God's will, that is being staged at the Southside Theatre Guild starting
tomorrow night. "God's Man in Texas," a two-act play by
David Rambo is set in present day Texas and deals with the televised 10
a.m. service of a Baptist church and the two ministers who nd themselves
at odds in front of the camera. Keith Williams plays Dr. Jeremiah Mears
who comes to audition for the pastor's position which is being ercely
clung to by Dr. Philip Gottschall as portrayed by Bill Hearnburg. Brad
Boseman completes the cast as Hugo Taney, the studio's camera man
and the production's main source of comic relief. Sarah Davenport
is in the director's chair and chose the play because she "liked
the storyline and how the powers of fate collide." Davenport added
that basically it's about an 81-year-old minister stepping down from
his post, but it's also much more than that.
"Although it's set
in a church, it translates into all areas of life."
Sarah's husband, Kelley
Davenport designed the sets and is also the technical director of the
play. Kate Gaulding of Fairburn joins the Guild for her rst production
as assistant stage manager and 14-year-old Ian McCarthy will be handling
the sound system. The play's running time is about two hours and
10 minutes. Opening night is Feb. 26. The show runs for three weeks, Thursday,
Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m.
