The PTC team moved the ball
with proficient passing, as nine different players contributed assists
in the game.Face-off specialist Mark Nichols controlled over 77 percent
of the draws and Danny Cushing won a key face-off in a "man-up"
situation.Goalie Danny Griffin saved all but one shot that scored in
the second quarter, protected by a strong defensive effort led by John
Gatell, Trevor McCarl and Michell Lentini. On the occasions when the defense
took away possession in the PTC end of the field, they cleared the ball
extremely well, resulting in many fast-break opportunities.
"Although they were significantly
bigger across the board, and very physical, we played a disciplined finesse
game," said Head Coach Mike Muetzel."On two different occasions
PTC players needed to be assisted from the field due to strong hits, but
we just never let up and kept moving the ball to the open player. We played
all 31 players in the game, and everyone contributed in a significant
way.We are looking forward to our next test, a strong Gwinnett team this
Saturday night."
That game is at 7:30 p.m. under
the lights at Riley Field, behind Peachtree City Elementary School. Admission
and parking are free. This week also marks the beginning of practice for
the youth teams in Fayette County.
