Last year, Getreu's family
donated four laptop computers to high school seniors who had demonstrated
excellence in math or art. This year Getreu has added a $1,000 gift to
J. C. Booth Middle School to benefit the school's Science Olympiad team
and technology program.
"I picked the computer
program because I am a computer nerd by trade. I also know that the Science
Olympiad team always needs money to help offset costs for all of the training
that they do throughout the year," Getreu said.
Getreu said she plans to continue
making donations to education to honor her parents for as long as she
is able to do so.
"I'm trying to do good
work with the inheritance that my parents left me. They were big believers
in education and I can't think of a better way to honor their memory."
