Third, I find it hard to understand
why Mr. Jordan, in his Nov. 26 letter, and Mr. Nance, in his Dec. 17 letter,
felt it necessary to make the kind of comments they did simply because
of an observation that was intended to be constructive in the first place.
I will not dignify Mr. Nance's
comments with a response. It is a sad commentary that in 2003, the mere
contention that African-Americans helped build Fayette County would elicit
such comments of a personal nature. For his information, I have never
denigrated Mr. Jordan's work as a police officer as Mr. Nance seems
to imply. Mr. Jordan's work as a police officer speaks for itself.
And by the way, Mr. Nance, I'm not going anywhere.
I'm comforted in the fact
that I do not believe that Mr. Nance's comments represent the sentiments
of most of Fayette County's residents.
So, Mr. Citizen, if there was
ever a feud, for my part, please consider it ended.
