Four local junior tennis players
turned in an exceptional weekend at the Bullfrog Designated Championships
in Raleigh, N.C. The tournament fielded 64 players in each age group (boys
and girls 12, 14, 16 and 18) and nine states were represented.
In the Girls 12 division, it
was an all-Peachtree City final with Chelsea Utting defeating Kourtney
Kowal 6-3, 6-1 for the title. Marybeth Black of Peachtree City took third
place, losing to Kowal in the semifinals.
The Girls 18 final also pitted
two Peachtree City players against each other, with Link Leskosky fighting
off two match points for a 6-7, 6-3, 7-6 win over Austin Smith, daughter
of famed tennis pro Stan Smith.
Other Peachtree City players
of note last weekend included Kevin King, 12, who finished ninth in the
Boys 14 division; and Michael Browder, 14, who reached the round of 16
in the Boys 16 division.
All of these competitors are
members of the Peachtree City Tennis Center.
