When the crash
occurred, Lonkert was heading to Tyrone to assist an officer there who
was trying to stop a vehicle on Ga. Highway 74, Hannah said. A witness
who was traveling on Rivers Road witnessed the accident and confirmed
that Lonkert's emergency blue lights were activated, Hannah said.
The sheriff's
department conducted the investigation because the Georgia State Patrol
was tied up at the time and there was only one vehicle involved, Hannah
said. The evidence at the scene matched up easily with witness accounts,
Hannah added.
No charges
are expected to be filed.
The county's
accident review board will also review the incident at a later date, Hannah
noted.
