"This
outward symbol is a reminder of human mortality," Epps continued,
"that people 'are made of dust and return to dust' and also serves
as a reminder of human frailty and as a symbol of repentance. On Ash Wednesday,
many churches encourage their members to observe a day of fasting and
abstinence. The liturgical color is purple, serving as a reminder of penitence."
The service
is open to the public. Christ the King is on Ga. Hwy. 34 between Newnan
and Peachtree City.
