Thomas W. Smrcina,
48, had directed the vehicle to stop and was struck after he turned around,
assuming the vehicle would stop, said Capt. Bryan Woodie of the Fayette
County Sheriff's Department. Smrcina was attempting to stop traffic for
a truck that was entering the road, Woodie said.
The 1995 Chevy
Lumina driven by Colon E. Cooper, 71, of Peachtree City, was traveling
north on Redwine Road and apparently did not see Smrcina, Woodie said.
No charges
will be filed against Cooper, Woodie said. Smrcina was dressed in dark
clothing, did not wear reflective gear and positioned in a shadowed area
when he was struck, Woodie added.
