Since its
completion 10 years ago, "The Day It Rained Forever" has been
previously performed only at Pepperdine University (with a student cast)
and at a festival in Scotland. It was then filed away, and has since been
performed only in a couple of studio readings in New York.
William Whitefield,
who will direct the Clayton State performances, and a senior at Pepperdine
University in 1992, originally approached Bradbury with a request - could
Whitefield write a musical based on Bradbury's short story "The Day
It Rained Forever?"
Impressed by
the young man, Bradbury granted Whitefield permission - and then went
one better. Bradbury aided in the adaptation.
Now 82, the
award-winning Bradbury says, "Live a life in which you cram yourself
with all kinds of metaphors, all kinds of activities, and all kinds of
love. And take time to laugh -- find something that makes you truly happy
-- every day of your life. That is what I have done, from my earliest
days..."
