UMC will welcome former pastor for homecoming
Ebenezer United
Methodist Church will have its homecoming celebration this weekend, featuring
former pastor Dr. Francis Ford as guest minister.
The event is
planned for all day Sunday, June 9, beginning with Sunday school at 9:45
a.m., worship at 11 a.m., and dinner following the worship service.
Ford was pastor
at Ebenezer from 1960-1965 when he entered full-time ministry and enrolled
at Candler School of Theology at age 33. He has served churches throughout
Georgia during his 47 years of ministry.
In 1978, Ford
was the first minister in Georgia to win the Bishop's Award of Excellence
in scouting. In 1981, he was awarded the United Methodist Rural Fellowship's
Distinguished Service Medal during the annual conference. In 1988, at
age 56, he returned to school to earn his doctorate. Last year, at 69,
he began taking piano lessons and now fills in for his church pianist
when she is absent.
"Ebenezer
will always be special to me," Ford said. "It is where God used
his people and church to lead me into the full time work of building the
Kingdom."
Ebenezer UMC
is at 680 Ebenezer Church Road between Peachtree City and Fayetteville.
