"This

has become an annual event at our church," said the Rev. Isaiah J.

Waddy, senior pastor at Greater St. Peter, "because the talent show

provides a Christian forum for our youths to showcase their God-given

talents through praise and worship, as we continue to inform them and

the community of the harmful effects of tobacco use."

Last year's

show was an overwhelming success, Waddy said, with youth representing

and participating from more than 15 area churches. Prizes were awarded

for first, second and third place in two areas: children ages 6-12, and

teens, age 13-18. This year's theme is "Youth Armed for Service in

the School, Church and Community."

Performances

are expected to include soloists, duets, gospel or spiritual groups, youth

choirs, liturgical or interpretive dance, mime groups, musicians, step

teams and dramatists, among others.

Greater St.

Peter church is at 9540 Fayetteville Rd., Jonesboro. For more information,
