"Our teens
and young adults are dying at far higher rates in crashes due to inexperience,
risk taking and low seat belt use," McBride said. "More that
half of all teens who die in crashes are completely unrestrained. We can
save lives because these tragedies are predictable and therefore preventable
with proven techniques like high visibility enforcement mobilizations."
During last
year's Click It or Ticket campaign, over 33,000 people were cited for
seat belt violations while almost 2,200 were cited for violations of the
child restraint law. Another 1,720 people were arrested for DUI as a result
of the checkpoints.
