Union City is getting ready
to get tough on delinquent taxpayers.
The City Council voted to contract
with Government Tax Solutions, Inc. for the collection of delinquent property
tax at the May 21 meeting.
GTS will be responsible for
sending late notices, the processing of liens and, if necessary, the support
of tax sale of properties at no cost to the city.
Delinquent taxpayers will pay
a fee directly to the company, the city will receive all collections. The
fee for services from GTS is tacked on to the tax bill which is paid to
the city as an administrative cost.
According to City Administrator
Sonya Carter, the city will realize a savings in manpower hours.

Company with a bid of a little over $7,000 for the City's 2002 Community

Voted to remain a partner
with Fulton County as a sub-recipient of the Community Development Block
Grant to ensure they would continue to receive funds. The city had the
option of applying for its own CDBG this year as Fulton County has exceeded
the 200,000 population mark.
City Manager Sonya Carter recommended
that the city not apply for an individual grant as they may not receive
it and they may only apply every three years.
Rezoned six properties along
Hwy. 138/Jonesboro Road, east of I-85 from Light Industrial to General
Commercial. The rezonings were initiated by the city to reflect the current
usage of the properties. The properties adjoin Oakley Industrial Park
and were originally classified as M-1 due to the proximity to the Industrial
Park.
Numerous automobile dealerships
and similar businesses, which are allowed in the M-1 classification, now
occupy the properties.
However, the city determined
that the GC classification better fits the current growth and voted to
rezone.
