Just over eight
years ago, Jim Keesee started his dream of making burial arrangements
better for grieving families.
Keesee had
just buried his father and wanted to create an experience that was easier,
less expensive and spiritually fulfilling for families in their hour of
need.
Late in April,
Keesee's dream became a reality as the groundbreaking for Mutual Meadows
in Douglasville took place.
The new cemetery
is just across the border from Palmetto and is offering a different approach
to burial services. Traditionally, many residents want to be buried near
their church.
But with growth
grabbing up space in the metro area, many churches don't have room for
a cemetery.
Mutual Meadows
is working with a group of churches, including the Archdiocese of Atlanta,
the Presbyterian churches, the African American churches and Full Gospel
Baptist Church Fellowship to provide a final resting ground for their
members.
Director of
development Bob Carpenter said this is the first of this type cemetery
in the country and is pleased with the support of the religious community.
