The name Campbell

County has been around since 1828.

Even though

the county became part of Fulton County in 1932, the name is perpetuated

through the Old Campbell County Historical Society.

Founded in

1970, the society continues to preserve history and artifacts concerning

the county, which was formed from parts of Fayette, DeKalb, Carroll and

Coweta counties.

The group's

recent Christmas luncheon celebrated its 30 years of existence, with Dot

Lassiter recounting its accomplishments, which include refurbishing the

1871 Old Campbell County Courthouse. The society also houses a research

center and museum.

Fulton County

has given the use of the courthouse to the society and named the group

as curator.

The society

meets each third Sunday at 3 p.m. For information, phone Lassiter, 770-964-6007.
