Mothers in
Fayette and Coweta counties are invited to join other mothers around the
nation in a special mission for moms praying for their children and their
schools through "Moms in Touch," a national prayer group which
meets weekly on local levels.
Presently,
there are about 20 groups in Coweta and Fayette counties and about 500
members statewide. The group is interdenominational and meets to pray
for children of all ages, including elementary, middle and high school.
"New members
are always welcome," said area coordinator, Michelle Holder, a Fayette
County resident. "From our pastors to our President, the nation is
being urged to pray. What better way is there to pray for our nation's
future, than to pray for our children? Our group has already been established
and we do what we have been asked to do."
Moms in Touch
International was founded in 1984 by Fern Nichols, a mother concerned
about her two sons entering junior high school in Canada. Nichols stated
that she thought it was going to be difficult for her sons to withstand
peer pressure and "do the right thing" during the junior and
senior high school years. So she started a prayer group that focused on
praying for children and their schools. Nichols continued her prayer group
after moving with her family to California in 1985.
Today, there
are about 30,000 Moms in Touch groups meeting weekly around the world.
Moms in Touch booklets have been translated into 21 languages, including
Arabic, Chinese, German, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian and Swahili.
"The hour-long
format began by Mrs. Nichols keeps mothers praying and not socializing,"
said Holder. "Included are Bible verses and prayers for specific
children. The goal of the organization is to have a group of two or more
moms praying for every school in the country and throughout the world."
