If you're having
out-of-town company soon and want interesting places to take them, go
to the Road to Tara Museum in the visitors center in the old train depot
in Jonesboro.
A Premier Pass
can be purchased allowing one to experience living in the legendary land
of "Gone With The Wind." It will admit visitors to five Atlanta
area attractions that provide special insight into Margaret Mitchell's
quintessential Southern saga.
Three of them
are in Jonesboro: Stately Oaks, an 1839 plantation house restored to reflect
the way of life of an antebellum planter's family with costumed guides
conducting tours Monday through Friday and most Saturdays from 10:30 a.m.
to 3:30 p.m.; a Historical and Hysterical Tour with tours Monday through
Saturday at 1 p.m., or by appointment, and the Road to Tara Museum, open
Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.
to 4 p.m.
Also included
in the pass is the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum in midtown Atlanta,
which tells the story of Margaret Mitchell's life, including penning the
famous novel in her small apartment here. Daily tours are given from 9
a.m. to 4 p.m.
Finally, the
pass admits you to one of Atlanta's most famous attractions, the Cyclorama.
Here visitors get a broader scope of one of the movie's pivotal scenes
and one of the war's most important battles, the Battle of Atlanta. It
is one of the world's largest paintings in-the-round. It is open from
9:20 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Premiere
Pass is available for $34.95, plus tax, at the Jonesboro Welcome Center
or at the Margaret Mitchell House in Atlanta. The souvenir pass, which
is printed with movie scenes, is numbered and contained in a vinyl pouch
on a neck chain. It is destined to become a collectible itself for legions
of "Gone With The Wind" fans.
