Both the winner
and the first runner-up received a plaque and a $25 gift certificate to
Barnes and Noble Bookstore. All contestants received a certificate in
honor of their participation in the county's spelling bee.
In order to
compete at the county level, students had to win spelling bees at their
individual schools. The countywide spelling bee is open to students in
the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh grades.
The Fayette
County Association of Educators and the Georgia Association of Educators
sponsored this year's event.
