The building
is organized around a central exterior courtyard defined by a "Main
Street" connecting the school's front door to its classroom wings.
Features include
a gymnasium, cafetorium with full-service kitchen, music suite and performance
area, media center, 42 standard classrooms and 10 special purpose classrooms
that can accommodate five computer terminals each. A 9,000-sq. ft. play
pad, three play structures, and a large grassed play area complete the
outside features.
The school
is scheduled to open in August 2002. A permanent school name will be chosen
about six months prior to the scheduled opening date.
Later this
month, the school system will begin a series of facilitated meetings to
determine the attendance zone for the Dodson Road site as well as all
other South Fulton schools.
