The ages themselves
wouldn't change under the proposal. Instead, children ages 12 through
14 would also be allowed to drive a cart if a grandparent accompanies
them in the front seat.
Currently,
those children can only operate a golf cart with a parent or legal guardian
in the front seat. When children reach the age of 15, they are required
to ride with a person at least 18 years old who has a valid driver's license.
At 16, youths can drive golf carts on their own.
The proposal
was requested by Councilman Dan Tennant, according to a memo issued to
council members. Council will discuss the matter during its regular meeting,
which begins at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
