Tyrone's citizens
must be happy with their local government.
When qualifying
for two council seats ended Friday, only incumbents Lisa Richardson and
Ray Bogenschutz had qualified for the posts.
Since no one
else qualified, Tyrone will not have a municipal election this year.
In other news,
the town's leaders face a busy agenda at Thursday's Town Council meeting.
Items to be discussed include:
·A public
hearing to rezone a 68-acre site on Ga. Highway 74 and Dogwood Trail from
AR to Educational Institution from Braelinn Baptist Church. The church
wants to build its new sanctuary at the site.
·An annexation
request from R.L. Jennings for a 32 acre site on Trickum Creek Road. Jennings
has not disclosed what type of development he wants on the property.
·A proposal
site near the Pendleton subdivision.
Mooney originally
asked the Tyrone Planning Commission last month to approve a rezoning
from AR, which requires three-acre lots to R48, which allows one-acre
lots.
But Mooney
said the development would work better if the commission would allow a
clustering development on half-acre sites that would mimic the pastel-colored
homes of Seaside in the Florida panhandle. The homes would be tightly
packed together and the development would feature six pocket parks.
But because
Tyrone currently does not have a zoning category that allows half-acre
lots, the commission decided to approve the rezoning to R-48 and said
the Town Council would have to decide Thursday night if it wants to create
an ordinance allowing smaller lots.
Mooney said
the development would feature homes a minimum of 2,600 square feet in
size and priced between $350,000 and $500,00.
The meeting
starts at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall.
