Not knowing whether to be happy or sad

The sun came

up this Sunday morning but I really do not know whether to be happy or

sad.

I am happy

that I indeed got up this morning when so many others did not have that

opportunity.

I am sad when

I think that there are liqour stores, night clubs, and adult bookstores

that seek to make their mark on our society by trying to destroy rather

than build up or communities.

I am happy

when I remember the joy folks had when they tried to capture just a glimpse

of a runner carrying the Olympic Torch.

I am sad when

I think what someone tried to do during the Olympic Games in Centennial

Park.

I am happy

when I remember we did not let that individual destroy our spirit.

I am sad when

I think what illegal drugs and lack of education are doing to our communities.

I am happy

when I learn of even one child making it out of a "forgotten"

neighborhood and becoming a productive member of society.

I am sad when

I wonder why all the libraries in South Fulton are not open during Saturdays

and Sundays so children can learn everyday.

I am happy

that we can leave the borders of Georgia with out permission or permits.

I am sad when

I realize how easy it is for anyone to enter Georgia.

I am happy

when I can spend time with and interact with my family.

I am sad when

I think about the numerous children that never had had that opportunity

to do the same.

I am happy

that public safety officials are there to protect us and our property.

I am sad when

I remeber their fallen comrades in new York City.

I am happy

that I have the ability to read and comprehend the written word.

I am sad when

I note that I will never fully understand the reason for the senseless

tragedy in New York City and Washington, D.C.

I am happy

when I think about the tens of thousands of folks that returned to church

following the tragedy on September 11, 2001.

I am sad when

I think of the many that had their "homecoming" that never will.

May God bless

you and your family!
