"People
are putting $5, $10, even $20 bills into the bucket. This is unbelievable,"
said Cyndee Haney, who drives bus 203.
Bus driver
Virginia Couch had the idea to rally the drivers to help raise funds to
assist those who had worked hard to save many lives during the terrorist
attack on the World Trade Center.
"They
[firefighters] are community servants and so are we. They have truly served
their community and country well and we as bus drivers can do the same
Approximately
35 drivers answered Couch's call to help. To show their spirit, the drivers
decorated two school buses with American flags and red, white and blue
streamers and placed them around the square to help promote their efforts.
Proceeds raised
were turned over to the Fayette County Fire Department. The money will
be combined with the department's fund-raising efforts for the firefighters
in New York City
