Two of the
state's largest educational advocacy groups are being led this year by
Fulton County School System leaders.
In June, Fulton
County Board of Education member Zenda Bowie was installed as president
of the Georgia School Boards Association.
In July, Superintendent
Stephen Dolinger began his term as president of the Georgia School Superintendents
Association. This is believed to be the first time that the presidents
of these two organizations have come from the same school system.
Both GSBA and
GSSA are voluntary statewide organizations that exist to support Georgia's
180 school systems through training and advocacy. In their roles as president,
Bowie and Dolinger provide educational leadership and serve as liaisons
between their respective organizations, the publics they serve and other
governmental agencies. Both will serve one-year terms.
Bowie, a resident
of East Point, represents District 4 on the Fulton County Board of Education.
A member since 1990, she served as Fulton school board president from
1993-1996.
Dolinger has
served as superintendent of the Fulton County School System since 1995,
overseeing 75 schools, 71,000 students and 8,500 employees.
