One of the youngest churches
in the county has just moved into its first building.
The Heritage Christian Church
moved into an 800-seat sanctuary this past spring. It is on 77 acres at
Redwine Road and Bernhard Road.
It has seen its attendance
grow from the core group of 75 members, meeting in schools, to a current
attendance of 500 persons.
The senior pastor is Greg Marksberry,
[email protected] , who has served since the church
began in April, 1998. He was charged by the Southwest Christian Church
of East Point to plant a new church in the metro area and a study determined
Peachtree City was the best place. "We took one look," he said,
"and we knew we wanted to stay."
Its members serve not only
the local community but outside it as well. Adults have gone to Mexico
City in conjunction with the Georgia Tech campus ministry to establish
a campus ministry at Monterey College.
This summer 25 youths traveled
to Ironton, Ohio to help in repairing homes in an impoverished area.
Currently the worship services
are at 9:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. In September they will be at 9:30 a.m. and
11 a.m. Sunday School is conducted at those same times. Sunday evening
is for youths and middle high students, who meet at 6 p.m. for Bible studies.
Beginning Aug. 15, Wednesday
evenings will start at 5:30 p.m. with a dinner. The cost will be $3.50
per adult and $2.50 for youngsters. At 6:45 programs will be given for
youths and adults in educational studies.
The staff strives to live up
to its adage: "At Heritage we simply strive to be real people serving
the real God in a real world."
The church is at 2130 Redwine
Road and can be reached at 770-716-5768.
