Winning isn't everything, but it is better than nothing

once said "Winning isn't everything it's the only thing."

He was kidding,

of course, but this was before people truly understood sarcasm. An excellent

example of this is Nixon's famous "I am not a crook" quote or

FDR's "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself" quote.

After all, there were lots of things to fear, first and foremost, death

from above.
