Georgia Dance

Theatre, a civic, nonprofit organization, was founded in 1990 by Davis.

GDT employs professional and amateur dancers gifted in many different

styles of dance. The professional company, which is the only one in surrounding

local counties, has existed since 1997 and is currently seven members

strong. The company provides more than 30 scholarship members the opportunity

to train with educators in fine arts, including such ballet masters as

Ramazan Bapov, former principal of Bolshoi Ballet Theatre and silver medallist

to Mikhail Baryshnikov.

Student company

dancers audition each year with hundreds of other students around the

world to attend prestigious summer dance programs. This year many GDT

members were accepted to School of American Ballet, American Ballet Theatre,

Houston Ballet, Boston Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, and The Pennsylvania Ballet.

GAD recipients have been granted scholarships for these schools.

The Celebration

Concert will be presented at Starr's Mill High School auditorium. "This

City Never Sleeps" will be Saturday at 7 p.m., and "Alice

In Wonderland" will be Sunday at 2 p.m. Ticket prices are

$10 general admission and can be purchased at the door or at Georgia Academy

of Dance. For information or auditions phone Georgia Academy of

Dance at 770-631-3128.
