Fayette County
resident E. Jeanne Pound has been selected State School Psychology Action
Network Coordinator of the Year by the Government and Professional Relations
Committee of NASP. Pound, who currently serves as a school psychologist
in the Forsyth County schools, is recognized for her advocacy efforts
on behalf of children, families and the profession of school psychology
at the local, state and national levels.
As the current
legislative chairman of GASP, Pound has developed an active communication
network that encourages advocacy efforts by all GASP members. During the
2000-2001 school, GASP developed a proactive legislative agenda that included
seeking sponsorship of state legislation designed to provide incentives
for nationally certified school psychologists. GASP also has been active
in promoting expanded roles for school psychologists relative to crisis
intervention and violence prevention.
The current
legislative agenda also focuses on attaining recognition for the profession
as a critical needs area that will enable students pursuing advanced degrees
in school psychology to avail themselves of HOPE scholarships. Pound,
who is GASP's immediate past president, will be honored at the NASP GPR
awards ceremony Friday evening.
Crockett and
Pound, both nationally certified school psychologists, are trained in
the National Organization of Victim Assistance model of crisis response
and are inaugural members of the Georgia Crisis Assistance Team for Schools.
This team is sponsored by GASP and is available to assist school systems
within the state that may need assistance in responding to a variety of
natural disasters, accidents, acts of violence and other crises.
