Newnan fell
victim to Douglas County Monday night in the varsity match-up between
the two schools, 4-2.The Lady Cougars started with the continuing bad
habit of giving up early goals as Douglas took the lead after only five
minutes of play. They added a second with just over 13 minutes to go in
the half but the second goal seemed to inspire the Newnan squad.
Whitney Mansour
cleared the ball from the defensive end with Amanda Morton picking up
the loose ball and racing in to close the gap to 2-1 with ten minutes
remaining in the half. Not long after that, Lanie Scott beat the defense
to the ball and played a clever cross for Morton to run onto and finish
to tie the match at two at halftime. Douglas County controlled the ball
for most of the second half and overtime loomed as time was running down.
But Douglas
scored two quick goals, one off a corner kick, to seal the win.
