It appears as though the new
state flag will not be flying over City Hall in Fayetteville anytime
soon. That's not the city's fault, however, as the state will need a couple
of months just to get new flags manufactured and sent to the various municipalities.
According to City Manager Joe Morton, state law requires every local government
that receives state funds to fly the official state flag, but since that
is logistically impossible for several weeks, Gov. Roy Barnes signed an
executive order last week allowing the old flag to remain in the air at
municipal buildings across the state until replacements arrive.
