The local basketball

teams had some close games over the weekend as they continued to face

an onslaught of tough regional opponents.

Sandy Creek

played at Creekside Friday night and lost at the buzzer, 70-68. Both teams

went back and forth during the game, with the Patriots' Richard Lott scoring

four points to tie the score near the end of the game.

Creekside snuck

the Patriots in scoring with 32 points, while William Belton added 14

and Corey Adams chipped in 10.

The Patriots

played at Northgate Saturday and exploded in the fourth quarter to win

80-45. Lockett only played in the second half and scored 24 points, while

Belton and Adams each scored 13. The Lady Patriots lost to Northgate 42-37.

The Patriots

(12-5) will host Rockdale County Friday night and travel to take on Woodward

Academy Saturday.

McIntosh played

at Stockbridge Friday night and lost 63-60. The Chiefs were down 20-14

after the first quarter but rallied to tie the score at the half. After

three quaters they had a 49-43 lead but a mixture of turnovers and missing

key rebounds led to the loss. Josh Burr had 21 points, all from three-pointers,

while Drew Hartley added 17. The Lady Chiefs led 40-36 at the end of the

third quarter but lost 49-45. McIntosh will host Eagle's Landing Friday

night.

On Friday Starr's

Mill's girls took on Mt. Zion of Jonesboro and won 54-42. Saturday saw

the Panthers take on East Coweta on the road and win both games. The boys

won 53-49 on the strength of Gary Kubic's five three-pointers, while the

girls won 59-51. Starr's Mill will travel to Evans Friday for games beginning

at 7 p.m.

The Panthers

will make a much shorter trip Saturday, as they travel down the road to

to take on the McIntosh Chiefs, with games beginning at 6 p.m. Fayette

County will play at Mt. Zion Friday night. The Tigers hosted Forest Park

Tuesday evening.
