According
to AAA Auto Club South's March report, prices have jumped
another 15 cents a gallon since last month.
Self-serve
unleaded is now averaging $1.38 a gallon.
"Increases
in the cost of crude oil directly affect all petroleum
fuel prices. The major reason the nation as a whole is
paying more for fuel today is because world crude oil
prices rose from about $11 per barrel early in 1999 to
more than $30 per barrel in early 2000," said Yoli
Buss, director of traffic safety for AAA South.
"This
was the direct result of an agreement between OPEC and a
few other major oil producers to restrict crude oil
production," she added.
Since last
March, consumers are paying an average of 55 cents more
for a gallon of unleaded gas. last march, the average
price was 83 cents a gallon.
