Today is
the deadline if you want to enter your special recipe in
this year's Great Chili Cook-Off in Newnan.
The
gastronomic feast takes place Oct.21 from 5-8 p.m. in
Newnan at the historic Court Square. Entries have come in
at a steady pace this year, said Main Street Newnan
director Mary Jo Holden.
Several
restaurants have joined the competition this year,
including Wendy's, Longhorn Steakhouse, Texas Road house
and the Redneck Gourmet Bar and Grill.
Wendy's
owner James Van Paepeghem has announced his restaurant
plans to donate 100 percent of their proceeds to the
local womens' shelter, while Texas Roadhouse and the Home
Source Realtors will donate money to the Diabetes
Association.
In addition
to chili, participants are encouraged to sell such items
as chili toppings, beverages and dessert items. While
sampling the chili, visitors will also be able to hear
live music as they stroll around the courthouse.
"There's
still time to get involved in the competition," said
Holden. "This is the first year for the
Chili-Cook-Off to get the spotlight and not be
overshadowed by the Taste of Newnan, so we're working
hard to get as many organizations and businesses as
possible involved. This is a fantastic opportunity for
school organizations, churches and other non-profits to
raise money, so we'd love to see more of them
participate."
Entry fee
is $15 for the event and winners in the competition
receive $100 for first place, $50 for second and $25 for
third place.
