Next week
is the time to officially stake your claim for one of two
City Council seats available in Peachtree City this fall.
Qualifying
begins Monday at 8:30 a.m. and concludes Friday, Sept.
17, at 4:30 p.m. at the city clerk's office at City Hall.
Any registered voter 21 or older who has been a resident
of Peachtree City for at least six months by election day
(Nov. 2) is eligible.
The
qualifying fee is $180.
Three
residents have publicly declared that they will vie for
the Post 2 seat being vacated by Jim Pace - Chuck
Lehman, Bruce Perlman and Dan Tennant. Pace announced
early this summer that he would not seek a second term.
In Post 1,
Annie McMenamin is unopposed so far.
City
Council positions are numbered 1-4 for election purposes
only. All posts are "at-large," which means
that each council member represents the entire city.
All seats
are held for four-year terms. Council members receive a
salary of $6,000 per year.
If a runoff
is necessary, it will be Nov. 16. Deadline for voter
registration is Oct. 4.
