The Clayton College and State University women's

USC-Spartanburg on Saturday night. Sophomore Misty Amerson

finished with a school record 10 steals to increase her season

total to 67, breaking the previous record of 59 set by Candi

Wyatt during the 1993-94 season. Freshman Sarah Ernest of

Fayetteville nailed three three-pointers to tie the single season record of

45, while the Lady Lakers as a team connected on 9 of 21 from

beyond the arc to increase their season total to 133, another record.

The Lady Lakers trailed 52-45 with just under seven minutes

to go, when Sarah Ernest hit two three-pointers to jump start a

12-0 run. Misty Amerson finished with 15 points and eight

assists, while junior Mandy Cowan scored 11 points and grabbed

10 rebounds. It was her fourth double-double of the season.

The men's team was handed a win over USC Spartanburg

on Saturday. The Lakers connected on 27 of 30 free throws in the

second half, including 17 of 18 in the final 3:08, en route to a

84-71 comeback win. Leading 67-60, Clayton State took advantage

of three USCS technical fouls in a span of 22 seconds and

drained seven straight free throws to take a commanding 14 point lead

with just under three minutes to go. It was the Lakers 15th win of

the season, their most since the 1994-95 season.

Seniors Mike Ruth and Robert Conley scored 21 and 20

points respectively, while freshman Charlie Frazier Jr, added

17 points. Clayton State travels to Savannah on Tuesday to

face Armstrong Atlantic State University in a PBAC
