Tomorrow night's meeting of the town council in Tyrone
should provide residents with a glimpse of the town's future.
One of the more interesting items on the agenda is the
appointment of the planning commission members. Town
manager Barry Amos said the town usually advertises the planning
commission positions, but has not been instructed to do so this year.
Another quirk of this year's appointments is that all the
members are up for reappointment. The terms run for two years,
but Amos said that for some reason all the terms expire at the end
of this year.
"I really don't know what Mayor Santiago plans to
do," Amos said.
On another future-related issue, the council will discuss the
five and 10 year plans that were originally discussed at an earlier
meeting this month. The town is looking at a period of rapid growth
in the next decade and is evaluating its facilities and personnel.
The plans call for the town to build a new police station,
library and administrative complex and Amos expects the council to
have a lengthy discussion on managing the town's growth.
The council meets at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall.
