Why no raises for loyal F'ville employees?

Letters from Our Readers

No departments in the city of Fayetteville, as far as I know, have been getting a "cost

of living" raise in many years, until just

last month. Thanks to the new city manager, that should have, however, been done long ago.

I think its great to hear about the fire dept. and police getting their "long over-due

raise." Myself, as a concerned citizen of this

county, was glad to hear that, but what about the

other departments within the city? A lot of them have a large turnover of employees because

of the low pay.

This county continues to grow rapidly, yet their salaries remain almost unchanged,

except for a 2-to-2 1/2 percent raise each year.

It is really a shame when hardworking city of Fayetteville employees can't even afford

to live in Fayetteville, with the already low salaries and the huge property tax increases

each year, which is another issue in itself!

For this to be labeled such a rich community, and I know it is, seems like

some of that money could be going to the employees who keep this city what it is today. They

watch huge amounts of money being spent to move "historic" homes and renovate them, lots

of money to make new buildings look old and much more spending than most citizens

realize.

If things continue, one day, all the employees of this county will have to live in

another county to be able to afford to work for the

city of Fayetteville.
