methamphetamine and $5400 in cash from Hobby.

Peachtree City

Alcohol misuse continues to be Peachtree City's

number-one crime problem, says Police Chief James Murray, "but I think

any other police department could probably say the same thing."

Arrests for last week show four cases of driving under the

influence, two persons charged with drinking in a park (a specific

violation in Peachtree City), eight people charged with

carrying open containers of alcohol, and eight people ages 15-20

charged as "minors in possession of alcohol."

Murray said the week was "typical for the summer."

Police also arrested Bennie L. Matthews, 38, of Newnan,

and charged him with shoplifting after an incident at the A&P

Grocery Aug. 18. Matthews had fled the area after reportedly

being observed shoplifting, but was apprehended shortly after,

Murray said.

A 17-year-old charged with 19 counts of criminal damage

to property in Peachtree City remains in Fayette County

Jail. Andrew D. Mycoskie of Peachtree City was arrested after

numerous cars at repair shops were extensively damaged.

Fayetteville

Among other cases, Fayetteville police are investigating

two incidents of apparent home burglary Aug. 19 on Brittany

Chase and Aug. 21 on Garden Court. A wedding ring was stolen from

the Garden Court home, but nothing was reported stolen from the

Brittany Chase residence.

Vandalism involving spray-painted graffiti on Tiger Trail

at Fayette County High School also is under investigation.

Officer Derek Brown discovered the paint near the entrance to the

student parking lot on the night of Aug. 23. If you have

information about the incident, please call Fayetteville police at

770-460-4247.
