The number of Covid cases in the Fayette County School System fell this past week by nearly half compared to the previous week.

The weekly report by individual schools showed a total of 44 new infections, compared to 86 two weeks ago.

The total number of positive cases plus quarantined persons exposed to the coronavirus dipped by 40%, the report shows.

Two weeks ago the system had 595 active cases and quarantined staff members and students. This past week, that number fell to 357 total active cases and quarantined persons.

The most recent school report shows new cases in 29 students and 15 staff members. Quarantined after exposure were 273 students and 40 staffers last week.

New Covid infections were in the single digits among all Fayette schools, with the highest number of new cases at McIntosh High School — 8 students, no new staff cases.

Schools with the most quarantined persons were McIntosh High School with 40 (38 students and 2 staffers), Fayette County High School with 31 (26 students and 5 staff members), Whitewater Middle School with 25 (24 students and 1 staffer), and Huddleston Elementary with 28 (26 students and 2 staff members).

Four elementary schools had a grade A week: No new cases among either staff or students at Burch, Cleveland, Inman and Peachtree City.

One school — Cleveland Elementary — was clear across the board: No new positive cases and nobody in quarantine.
